The difference appears in reflected light, not the darkest pixels
Jet black aims for dense, even darkness and can read neutral or slightly cool. Blue-black is equally deep in shadow but reveals a navy cast along curves, flyaways, and glossy highlights. A preview with crushed shadows can make both options look identical, so inspect areas where the original hair catches light. If those highlights turn inky blue, you are seeing the defining blue-black effect rather than simply a darker edit.
